Sennu Laine,
Sennu Laine is a Finnish cellist living in Berlin. She is a passionate musician, whose musical life includes chamber music, orchestral life and solo appearances. She has collected important musical experience in numerous festivals, such as the Barge Music Festival (New York), the Jerusalem International Chambermusic Festival, MDR Musiksommer, Freiburger Musikfestival, The Silk Road Project by Yo-Yo Ma and Kempten International Kammermusikfestival. Sennu has performed with great artists such as Kolja Blacher, Renaud Capuson, Gautier Capuson, Elena Bashkirova, Daniel Barenboim, Magdalena Kozena, Nikolaj Znaider, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Elisaveta Blumina, Alisa Weilerstein and Lang Lang. As a soloist she has performed with conductors such as Kurt Sanderling and Jorma Panula. In May 2016 she will perform the Cello Concerto of Henri Dutilleux with the Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim.
Sennu studied in Finland under Professor Erkki Rautio (Helsinki) and in Sweden under Professor Frans Helmerson (Stockholm). Important figures in her childhood have been her first teacher Csaba Szilvay and Professor Josef Schwab.
As a very young cellist, Sennu won the 3rd prize at the Turku Nordic Cello Competition in Finland and in 1996 the 1st prize at the ARD-competition in München, together with Anastasia Injushina (piano).
Since 1997 Sennu has been working as a 1st principal cellist at the Staatskapelle Berlin under Maestro Daniel Barenboim. She is a Mentor for cello at the Orchestra-Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin and since 2015 teaching at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin.

Toukokuussa 2016 Laine esitti Henri Dutilleuxin Sellokonserton " Tout le monde lountain" yhdessä Staatskapelle Berliinin ja Daniel Barenboimin kanssa Berliinin Filharmoniassa sekä Konserttitalossa.
Opintonsa Sennu Laine on suorittanut pääsiassa Helsingissä professori Erkki Raution sekä Tukholmassa professori Frans Helmersonin johdolla. Muita tärkeitä vaikuttajia ovat lapsuusajan opettajat Csaba Szilvay ja Josef Schwab.

€...Zwar steht auch bei ihnen der Lamento-Charakter des Werks im Vordergrund, doch sie erweitern es um Trost und Trotz, Wärme und Lebenswut, Zuversicht und sogar grotesken Humor. Dass die Staatskapelle auf feinste Gefühlsumschwünge der Solistin zu reagieren vermag, zeugt von tiefer Verbundenheit. Und tatsächlich: Sennu Laine ist seit 1997 Erste Solo-Cellistin der Staatskapelle. Langanhaltender, dankbarer Applaus hinterher für alle Beteiligten, aber auch für das Werk an sich. Und dies vollkommen zu Recht: Unter Barenboim offenbart sich Dutilleux' Cellokonzert endlich als Meisterwerk €" nicht zuletzt wohl, weil der 73-jährige Maestro die harmonischen Strukturen klar verständlich hervortreten lässt und darauf vertraut, dass sich das Atmosphärische von selbst ergibt.

The highlight of the evening came from Sennu Laine€s electrifying performance of Dutilleux. Ceaselessly she sustained a powerful current throughout the five movement uninterrupted variation of a cello concerto. At several moments, she would sway her cello as if soothing the composer€s often pointed intensity. With intense focus she infused the Énigme, Regard, Houles (with an effective contrast by the piccolo!), and Miroirs with a fierce elegance that sometimes bordered on a raw sensuality.
Inspired by excerpts from Baudelaire€s dark Romantic poems, Dutilleux€s world sounds lugubrious, mysterious, sometimes even threatening, and absolutely haunted. Laine€s sensitivity and technical skills led to dark colours, eerie vibrato, a rarified lower register, all enveloped by a canopy of orchestral mist from Barenboim. Together they lulled the audience into a major musical stupor that Baudelaire could have appreciated.
The final movement Hymne opens with an energetic burst. A surge brings the listener back to the now. Throughout the work, Laine and Barenboim brought out a richness and suspense in Dutilleux I had not heard before tonight.
